The Park PLAYers
Cooperation is the way,
Work together day by day.
Then no fighting needs to be,
And we’re all safe, both you and me.
WHO: Community teens and children.
WHAT: A summer conflict management playground
program designed to teach young teens and
children violence prevention skills. Created,
sponsored, and administered by Rockford Area
Lutheran Ministries.
WHEN: 8 weeks each summer, June - August.
WHERE: Liberty Park, corner of Central Avenue
and Morgan Street, in southwest Rockford.
WHY:
- To teach children and teens how to get
along together peaceably.
- To provide first-time job opportunities
for young teens.
- To help teens develop leadership and
life-building skills and provide
opportunities for them to relate to
non-parent adults.

BY THE NUMBERS:
- In 2005, 16 teens from 8 area middle and
high schools and 480 children coming from 11
area daycare/community center/child welfare
programs participated.
- 10 church and community adults helped
with the program.
- Since the program began, 264 teens have
been employed and 9,800 children have
participated, based on daily attendance
figures!
- Financial support for the program is
provided by grants, fundraisers, and gifts.
